Rooms of my Heart

DSC_0049

In the rooms of my heart the windows never close.

I watch the swelling of the curtains as memories old and new blow through.

My room of pain is deep within.

Layer upon layer of paint conceal the hurt that lies beneath.

There is a closet of white clothes.

Sometimes I see the crisp white fabric and sometimes all I see are stains.

Down the hall is a room with only darkness.

I try to light a candle, but there’s a force that blows it out.

The room is cold and I feel the chills of life run up and down my spine.

I never stay long there…

I rush into my room of things I love.

It is filled with my kids laughter and my husband’s embrace.

I also have my room of peace.

A worn comfy chair, a warm blanket, and a book await me there.

I stare out the window, I listen to the rain fall, and I pray.

There are many other rooms in my heart.

Some are locked and some are hidden.

Some have walls knocked down and others are under construction…

Oh, but I must not forget to mention my favorite room.

It is my room of forgiveness.

This room is covered by the blood of the Lamb.

It peels away the layers of paint and washes away my stains.

It gives me light in the darkness and warms my soul.

This, my dear, is the room of all rooms.

This is beautiful. I don’t enjoy spending time in my room of forgiveness, it’s a hard room to be in. Not forgiveness of myself but the knowing I then have to forgive others in other rooms of my home. I want to leave my forgiveness tucked nicely in that room where it feels good but I know God wants me to take it with me wherever I go. Loved this 🙂

Thank you. Yes, sometimes it is hard to be in my room of forgiveness…but yet when I do enter it and give the forgiveness He gives me…it is the most freeing feeling. 🙂

Reblogged this on Through the Stillness and commented:

Reaching in the depths of my soul to take, feel, and apply the question I’ve been pondering. The words stood out––I’ve read them many times before from a book I begin again and again the moment I finish it. It is a treasure to me, it strengthens me, and sets the right frame of mind before I read the bible.

If I knew how much God loves me…

I cannot truly know the measure of His love for me. No one can. I get glimpses, always passing swiftly through my life. Sometimes I pause and hold tightly as long as I can. Sometimes I cannot hold His love on my own. I think that is why we need each other so much. A smile on a hard day, a reminder of my importance in someone’s life, and a connection of any sort reorientates me to His love. We really are too weak to do this alone.

So, this week’s challenge at church is Forgiveness. It has begun with God’s forgiveness of our own sins. Jesus’ death on the cross is our greatest reminder of His love for us (amen). Anyway, it has reminded me of a poem I wrote a while back called Rooms of my Heart. Here it is…
